LO4 - Personal statement

This is the personal statement that I would submit when applying for photography courses at university: From a very young age I have been fascinated by photography. As I have grown older this fascination has turned into a passion and I have pursued this passion inside and outside of my academic life for the past 5 years. I am constantly experi menting with different styles and technique s trying to further my skills and build up an exciting and captivating portfolio.    One of my particularly favourite types of photography is music, whether it’s promotional organized shoots for artist s or capturing them in their element during live performances,; I have found that there is a constant stream of inspired and powerful images based around these artist’s work. I was particularly drawn to the work of Anton Corbijn , who’s work with bands like Joy division, Depeche Mode and U2 was key in developing their identity and public view.   I have already wor...

LO4: Selecting, creating and Evaluating my portfolio

Image
I compiled this selection of images from a range of photo collections in my portfolio. Through the 10 total photos I wanted to summarise my work and exhibit my strengths and the style/genre of images that I think my strengths lie in. 5 of the images used are a variation of music photography, I chose to put such a strong emphasis on this style of photography because it was the subject of many projects I worked on and therefore have had a larger amount of time to develop my own style for it and have created some of my strongest images. I think that these are some of the most captivating images that I created, and are surrealist enough without much editing, resulting in an extremely interesting image. One of the final images I created was intended to evoke much more of a comedic effect. It uses a simple piec...

LO2 - Evaluation of Resources

I have decided to take a path that will lead me into a higher education before going into a straight career path from this early.  This will allow me to learn more abstract and unconventional movements and techniques and allow for me to develop my own style and identity as a photographer. I have chosen to take BA Honours Photography course at Sheffield Hallam University. The pre-requisite for this course is 96 -112 Ucas Points. There is no interview required for entry though I will likely be judged on my portfolio to secure entry to the course. Access To Equipment Due to UTC Sheffield being a technical college I received access to a large amount of equipment. We were given all access to Canon 750D camera with a variety of lenses, as well as Apple Macs which all featured multiple editing softwares (though I mostly used photoshop). We were also given access to equipment like tripods and larger lights that could be attached to cameras. Work I have created for my portfolio I...
